FAST Program: Parent Resource Program

FAmily STart (FAST) Learning and Support Services, a division of the UIC Center for Literacy in the College of Education, empowers and strengthens Head Start families in Chicago. Our mission is to provide access to high-quality, research-based learning opportunities in collaboration with community partners. Our vision is to break the cycle of poverty and collectively strengthen communities through family learning services.

The Parent Resource Program is an important part of achieving FAST’s mission and vision. It offers resources, referrals and trainings to Early Head Start/Head Start Family Service Workers (FSWs) who support parents in achieving their personal, family and community goals. On-site consultations are provided to FSWs who need individualized follow up and support.

Job Summary/Function:

Under the supervision of the coordinator, the lead trainer assists in the design, development, service delivery, management, and continuous improvement of the Parent Resource program.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work related field; Master’s preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years related experience
  • Strong organizational skills; attention to detail
  • Strong Microsoft Office computer skills, especially Word and Excel
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and problem solve

Job Responsibilities:

  • Promote and facilitate trainings for EHS/HS Family Service Workers (FSWs)
  • Conduct individualized consultations and facilitate professional support groups with/for FSWs, as needed
  • Assist with the recruitment and retention of EHS/HS partners
  • Assist with the assessment of EHS/HS sites’ and FSW’s needs, gains, and program satisfaction
  • Help maintain and strengthen citywide EHS/HS referrals for parent goals, including pursuing adult education and career transition opportunities
  • Contribute to the on-going review/revision of training and other program materials
  • Ensure that staff members’ files are accurate, complete and properly stored
  • Assist with analyzing program data and suggesting modifications; review related reports
  • Assist with recruiting, hiring, and recognizing staff members, including AmeriCorps members
  • Supervise, coach/mentor, and evaluate staff members
  • Help to ensure that staff members use training techniques that are current, innovate, and informed by adult education pedagogy
  • Plan, assign, and monitor staff members’ work activities
  • Model cultural sensitivity, respect, positive conflict resolution skills, and professionalism
  • Conduct and document quarterly performance development reviews (including an annual training evaluation) with staff members
  • Ensure that staff members’ maintain a clean, organized and secure workspace
  • Conduct team meetings in consultation with the coordinator
  • Participate in program meetings, AmeriCorps coordination meetings, FAST meetings and other related activities
  • Serve as DFSS liaison, as assigned
  • Assist with presenting at EHS/HS related conferences and events
  • Read to stay current about parent/family needs and resources across the city
  • Adhere to policies, procedures, and the professional code of ethics of the college
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned

Salary: $42,000 – $47,000

Travel: some travel required between FAST locations primarily on the Southwest side of Chicago and to program related meetings.
